BLACK HISTORY MONTH

African American businesses are a significant and quickly growing part of the American economy. As of 2012, there were 2.6 million African American-owned businesses in the U.S., an increase of 34.5 percent since 2007. These businesses generate $127.9 billion in annual revenues. Over 270,000 of these businesses are owned by African American veterans (U.S. Census Bureau, 2017).

The PenFed Foundation Veteran Entrepreneur Investment Program (VEIP)’s Ignition Challenge strengthens small businesses that are run by veteran entrepreneurs. The Ignition Challenge is a competition in which entrepreneurs can identify their business impact and goals, compete for votes, and winners will receive both funding and mentorship.

What We Do:

VEIP can contribute to your company in multiple ways. Whether your company is at the idea stage or ready for financing rounds of investment capital, there’s a program here to suit your company’s access to capital.

Education

Pop-Up Labs—a one to two-day educational programs—are held throughout the country. Pop-Up Labs focus on different aspects of entrepreneurship and access to capital.

Preparation

Through our Master’s Program, workshops, boot camps and other opportunities, we ensure companies are prepared to enhance their fundraising strategy.

Investment

We invest seed capital, access to other capital investment programs, and funders to equip veteran founders with the financing they need to succeed.

The Military Women Startup Accelerator invites military women-run startups and small businesses to apply for a workshop series that culminates in a pitch competition at the Military Influencers Conference in May 5-7, 2021.

These workshops help prepare female military veteran, reservists, national guard, active duty and spouses through business-focused education, business development and scaling strategies, access to resources and pitch preparation and coaching that inspire and prepares them to start and grow their businesses.

"VEIP gave us the opportunity to pitch our business to a distinguished review board consisting of 20-25 influential and highly connected individuals. The opportunity was both humbling and invigorating knowing that an organization like VEIP is that committed to supporting veteran entrepreneurs. While many organizations preach supporting veteran entrepreneurs, VEIP follows through on that promise in a big way. Thank you again, VEIP"
